La satire anarcho-poétique d’Albert Dupontel a remporté sept trophées, vendredi, lors de la cérémonie de récompenses du cinéma français, marquée par les cris de détresse d’un secteur culturel frappé par l’épidémie de Covid-19.

Plus de trois heures d’autocélébration du cinéma français martyrisé par le Covid-19 s’étaient déjà écoulées quand Roschdy Zem, président de la 46^e cérémonie des Césars, est remonté sur la scène de l’Olympia pour annoncer enfin le titre du meilleur film 2020.

A cet instant, de courts extraits des longs-métrages dont la pandémie a empêché la sortie ont été projetés, laissant entrevoir ce qu’aurait pu être un palmarès sans coronavirus. Nombre de ces films auraient sans doute concouru et – qui sait – remporté quelques lauriers.

Sans minimiser les trophées recueillis par Albert Dupontel, qui, étant absent, a chargé sa productrice de repartir avec sept récompenses, il restera toujours comme un léger doute. Adieu les cons méritait-il les Césars du meilleur film, du meilleur réalisateur, du meilleur scénario original sans compter celui du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle pour Nicolas Marié – comparse de presque tous les projets du metteur en scène –, du meilleur décor, de la meilleure photo, et des lycéens ?

Ahmedabad: Outgunned by England on a tricky pitch, India skipper Virat Kohli admitted that they were clueless about handling the challenge posed by the conditions in the first T20I on Friday.

Invited to bat, India managed just 124 for seven as the batsmen struggled to cope with the two-paced track at the Motera stadium. England, however, chased the target comfortably, scoring 130 for 2 in 15.3 overs.

Kohli, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan fell to poor shots, something about which the Indian skipper looked concerned.

"We just weren't aware of what we had to do on that pitch, lack of execution on our shots is something we have to address," Kohli said after going down by eight wickets.

"Accept your faults, come back with more intent, clarity of areas you want to hit. Wicket didn't allow you to hit the shots we wanted to."

Kohli was pleased with the determination showed by Shreyas Iyer, who hit a half-century to help India post a respectable total.

"Shreyas showed how to use the crease and ride the bounce. Below par batting performance and England made us pay. We looked to try a few things, but having said that you have to accept the conditions.

"If the pitch allows you to, you can be aggressive from ball one. We didn't spend enough time assessing, Shreyas did but we had lost too many wickets to get to 150-160."

Asked if switching from Test format to the shortest format, was a reason for India's struggle, Kohli disagreed.

"That shouldn't be a factor, we take pride in playing good white-ball cricket, we won our last few T20I series. These five games before the World Cup, we have to try a few things, but we can't take anything lightly against England."

Happy to be on the winning side, England skipper said: "(It was a good game) Particularly in the bowling department, the wicket was better for us than we expected, we didn't have to go to plan B and C very often, which is always a good sign."

Opener Jason Roy's fluent knock ensured that England went about their business calmly. Morgan was quick to point out the impact Roy has on team.

"Within the side, there's huge competition, outside the squad, too. Huge support for players who score runs and do well, and when Jason does it gees the boys up."

Like Kohli, the England captain stressed that there was no Test hangover on players.

"It is a completely different format, very distinct. In big series, like the Ashes, we've come out the back and learned from it," Morgan signed. off.

India once again find themselves behind in a bilateral series, this time in T20Is, following their humiliating eight-wicket loss against England in Friday’s first match in Ahmedabad. Virat Kohli and Co will look to turn things around, and put up a more spirited performance when the two teams face-off in the second T20I on Sunday.

The hosts were put into bat after Eoin Morgan won the toss and England opted to field on Friday. Barring Shreyas Iyer (67), none of the other Indian batsmen even got off to successful starts as Jofra Archer scalped three wickets on a slow Ahmedabad track. Captain Virat Kohli succumbed to a third duck in five innings across formats (twice coming during the Tests).

And despite Kohli confirming that Rohit Sharma would open with KL Rahul, the former was later ‘rested’ for the first couple of matches, which meant that Shikhar Dhawan opened with Rahul. That move backfired as Rahul (1) and Dhawan (4) were dismissed in the first four overs.

The Men in Blue will need the likes of Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant to step up with their explosive batting prowess, and will expect them to handle pressure situations well with the bat.

India’s bowling display was also below-par with Yuzvendra Chahal enduring the match’s expensive spell with figures of 1/44 from four overs (economy rate of 11).

Navdeep Saini’s extra pace could add variety to India’s bowling lineup, but it remains to be seen if one of three spinners could make way for the right-arm fast bowler.

For England, Jason Roy looked sharp before being struck lbw by Washington Sundar. He and Jos Buttler stitched 72-run opening wicket stand, and thus, that stand eased the pressure on rest of the batsmen, as Dawid Malan (24*) and Jonny Bairstow (26*) sealed England’s victory.

The visitors may not look to tinker their match-winning squad, and will aim to build on their impressive form as they eye a 2-0 series lead.
